Argentina loves to play around with International grape varieties, especially those known for producing big hearty red’s. Here the producer has blended together Argentina’s adopted classic ‘Malbec’ with Portugal’s predominant Port grape ‘Touriga Nacional’… resulting in a beast of a wine! Deep purple black Port colour with rich concentrated black fruits (plum, blackberry, blueberry), red fruits (cherry, red current), cream, butter and a hint of toast on the aroma. On the palate there’s an intense mineral tinged inky black fruits (plum & blackberry) and a deep toasty vein winding through from the barrel ageing and mature integrated tannins. Dark Chocolate, licorice and a whiff of roast coffee round out the long extended finish. It’s a powerful deep wine; layered with complex minerality and waves of creamy black fruits coming up for air from time to time. Subtle this is not; nor is it likely to do the headache sensitive any favours… but if you’re a fan of Port or Douro wines, then this should be right up street. £8.65 (with 2 or more bottles in your case) from Majestic Wines.
