The Sour Grape

Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages 2012

Beaujolais can at times be a little ropey… this, however, is a great vintage, full of lifted ripe fruit and depth of character.

As with most Beaujolais-Villages, this is more ‘mouth than trouser’… But the aroma is as moorish as it is simple and the texture/finish of this wine are batting above its weight and closer by far to one of the Cru Beaujolais (Brouille or Fleurie). Bright translucent ruby coloured wine bleeding to pink at the rim with a fresh strawberry’s and cream aroma. Medium-light bodied with a forward but controlled acidity keeping this juicy but never tangy. Pure strawberry fruit juice on the pallet with a long, cleansing but light, finish. If you like your Beaujolais’ or lighter reds in general, then this is a cracking buy on offer for £7.99 from Tesco’s.
