France produces a huge quantity of amazing sparkling wine and most of them have nothing to do with Champagne at all; I picked this up while traveling through the Burgundy Region a few years ago. Bright Medium lemon colour with a fine mousse; aromas of citrus, honey and yeasty brioche that lean into a intense array of the same on the palate. There’s real depth of fruit and clarity to the flavors here and a good high acidity to slice through them. The finish is long and fresh but smooth all the way, never straying into sharp or tangy territory. A complex beaut of a brut… that bats we’ll above average against both Its piers and most entry level NV Champagne’s as well… only, you know, a third of the price! 8€ a bottle; direct from the producer.
