Bouchard Aine & Fils Cremant de Bourgogne Brut 2007

Love champagne but hate the price? Look around for 'Cremant'; it's essentially Champagne made outside of the region, but to all the same quality standards. They do differ from region to region, but Cremant de Bourgogne is the closest to Champagne at a fraction of the price.

France produces a huge quantity of amazing sparkling wine and most of them have nothing to do with Champagne at all; I picked this up while traveling through the Burgundy Region a few years ago. Bright Medium lemon colour with a fine mousse; aromas of citrus, honey and yeasty brioche that lean into a intense array of the same on the palate. There’s real depth of fruit and clarity to the flavors here and a good high acidity to slice through them. The finish is long and fresh but smooth all the way, never straying into sharp or tangy territory. A complex beaut of a brut… that bats we’ll above average against both Its piers and most entry level NV Champagne’s as well… only, you know, a third of the price! 8€ a bottle; direct from the producer.
