One of the best Portuguese white wines I’ve tasted to date. It has a pale lemon colour with clean fresh lemon, apple/pear and cream aroma upfront; developing more tropical fruit aromas as it warms a little. Clean acidity, ripe Lemon, grapefruit and pineapple on a textured palate. The finish is long and complex with layers of tropical fruits and yeasty goodness, winds down slowly with creamy note at the end before leaving a clean mouth feel. This is very well made, balanced in every way and especially in its use of oak (only 3 months in American and French Oak), which is almost undetectable apart from the texture of the wine. This also responds quite remarkably to change in temperature… clean and fruit forward when chilled and layers of complexity showing themselves as its slowly warms up a degree or two; yet at each point in balance with itself… no mean feat at all. Great value summer white and a stunning Portuguese wine period! £6.75 a bottle from the Wine Society.
